Taking all necessary measures to boost the production of the cash crops in the state, Cross River state government has issued the 2019/2020 land allocation for cocoa production to beneficiary farmers.
Chairman of Cross River State Cocoa Board, Dr Oscar Ofuka who revealed this at a meeting in Effraya Etung Local Government Area, said that the allocation had taken care of the interest of the landlord communities.
Ofuka said, “The 2019/20 allocation has taken care of the landlord communities and with a spread covering various interest groups in the state.
“This year’s allocation is carefully undertaken to ensure that the farmers adequately contribute to the regeneration and rehabilitation of the estates.”
He urged the farmers to pay up their lease fees for the period approved before having access to their farms, adding that they should not trespass into government-owned land and the government is willing to pay the landlord communities.
In his remark, the Ruler of Etung Local Government Area, Dr Emmanuel Ojong stated that the allocation will help motivate and encourage the beneficiaries, and it will enhance the state government effort to diversify the economy the state.
He urged the farmers to support the state government in repositioning cocoa in the state.
