An online channel specialized in land, agriculture, food and the environment, Cultivons-nous tv, has just been launched by Edouard Bergeon and Guillaume Canet in france.
Edouard Bergeon is a French filmmaker who achieved great success in 2019 with his feature film “Au nom de la terre” (In the name of the land), where he describes the drama of a young farmer who, unable to cope with the new agricultural labor situation and his growing debt, decides to end his life. The film was seen by almost two million people in France, where the public is highly sensitive to the subject because suicides in the countryside are reported daily.
Both the leading actor, Guillaume Canet, and Bergeon, have their origins in the countryside. Bergeon is the grandson and son of farmers and his father ended up committing suicide. With the film, Canet and Bergeon have set out not only to make the human drama of the countryside visible, but also to try finding solutions for it. Thus, on September 29 of last year, they organized a solidarity day with farmers. For each cinema ticket sold, one Euro would be donated to Solidarité paysans, a non-profit organization created by farmers to help each other when they are having difficulties. A few days ago, the film team handed them a check for 135,000 Euro, which will allow them to support 90 families.
The enthusiastic reception of their film “Au nom de la terre”, encouraged Canet and Bergeon to take their mission a step further at the end of April of this year, with the lockdown in force. They launched the platform Cultivons-nous tv, which offers documentaries on agriculture and its practices, with great reports on those who feed us and the products we eat. They also host agri-youtubers on their website; agricultural producers who share their experiences through videos on their own channels.
